MASAYOSHI OHIRA WAS PRIME MINISTER of Japan from 1978 until his death in 1980. Like Tomáš Masaryk, the founder of the former Czechoslovakia, it may not make much sense why these non-Mexican politicians are named after them in the country’s capital. While Avenida Presidente Masaryk is “the most expensive street in Mexico City,” Masayoshi Ohira Park is a small green space in the south of the city.
